Keeping old promises
I know I said I'd be spangling a brand new spangly look over the site, and I fully intend to. But before finishing that I tried to get a friend or two to read this, realising that it could be another month before the look of this place changes. So, some small sprucing has taken place to relieve the original template's austerity.
Some handy tips for my own future reference as much as anyone else's:
- The cartoon image of what I fondly imagine I look like comes from Portrait Illustration Maker, and my eyes are unfortunately not that piercing shade of blue.
- The best site-tracking utility I've found (to work out if anybody actually visits this place at all at all) is StatCounter. They give better results than every server-hosted reporting tools I've seen, and they don't require you to display their logo on your site. And they require absolutely no money for the privilege.
- The email-obscuring code (to foil those evil spambots) is courtesy of the Automatic Enkoderform.

Can I post to AWVC using Oddpost, the oh-so-super webmail client?
Yes! Yes I can!
That is all.

Something else I've learnt
... is that, in the US, it's possible to hang around a coffee house for seven months then release some fantastic software that makes you rich. Sigh.
This is very encouraging in an abstract way. "Encouraging" as there is some possiblity of success for this mode of operation. "Abstract" as it wasn't me getting rich.

What have I learned?
I've learnt that Movable Type doesn't support the word-processor style buttons for styling text in these posts when you're using Safari on Mac OS X, that's what I've learned.
And that I'm not sure if 'styling' is a real word.
Regardless, one demerit for MT.
Postscript: They work fine in Camino, Mac OS X's Firefox equivalent. Hmf. Also: if you're not using Firefox and you are using Windows, give Firefox a go. It's the internet without the fiddly bits.
