All ego, all the time

LoopDiLoop discusses blogging and the element of vanity required to think that the internet cares about what you think.

I've a blog for two main reasons:

I'm not that bothered by what the internet thinks I think about what the internet thinks, if you follow me.

You know Godwin's law, about newsgroup discussions? It says "As a Usenet discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one." I'm starting to think there's an analogous law for blogs, that goes something like "As a blog develops, the probability of a post discussing the pros and cons of blogging approaches one." One is approached much more quickly though, as I've actually just demonstrated. Oops.

well i’ve already brought the nazis into the conversation on the loopdiloop post, just to prove your point.

links to other blogs you read would be a good idea for you, if you don’t mind the free advice

Godwin’s law comes true again!

A list of links is definitely something that’s on the list, along with a spiffy new look. I suppose I got a bit impatient with my slow pace in that regard. But I’m hoping to have different links for each category, which is a touch trickier than I supposed it would be.

AWVC uses the Markdown formatting system, a very simple way to format your comments. Whitespace is converted directly. Enclose a phrase with asterisks to italicise, and two asterisks (**) to embolden. A good introduction to the Markdown format is available here.

Cleverly, though, the preview is basically useless (it will just show what you've typed). If you want a real preview, enter your text into the Markdown Dingus, then re-enter it here.
